Principal’s Message from Heidi Galassi

We are closing out the 2018 calendar year and reflecting on our first trimester.  We had some great growth by our Landels community and we have all contributed to the success.  I just want to take the time to thank you for your patience with all the changes that have been made and your participation in our community to continue to make Landels an awesome place to be!

We are continuing to strengthen our home-school connection by completing weekly home visits on Thursday.  You may be receiving a call from our office to set up a home visit for a Thursday afternoon.  During our visit, we can discuss anything from upcoming events at Landels to how to use technology at home to support learning for your child.

Reminder:  Tomorrow, Thursday, we have our principal’s coffee at 8:30 a.m.  We will be speaking about how to help your child with homework at home including using technology-based school programs at home.  Bring your at home technology device and we will walk you through the login process.  Our district technology coach will also be available to help.

Tip to help support learning at home:   Talk about and show growth mindset videos at home.  At school, we talk about how our brain is a muscle and we need to use it to make it grow stronger.  We also enforce here at school that when you struggle with something, it means you’re learning.  The following is an example of a growth mindset video:

If your student is interested in a class, please have him/her sign up in the office.  If you would like to add the class to your calendar, please scan the 2-D bar (QR) code on the sign-up sheet after your student has signed up.

A Warm Welcome from Landels PTA

Landels PTA would like to welcome families transitioning from Bubb to Landels next school year. Landels has around 140 families transitioning out of our school to Vargas in Fall 2019, and around 95 incoming from Bubb. We recognize that this is a time of change and while some families may feel anxious about leaving their existing school, others are excited.

Landels PTA would like to help ease this transition. We have started a “circle” on our parent portal (called SimplyCircle).  This is a place where you can ask questions, message, or connect with other transitioning Bubb families. To join the SimplyCircle, please go to https://my.simplycircle.com/sign_up/invitations/invite_code and enter the invite code VMWDT9. This “circle” is a private group solely for Bubb parents transitioning to Landels. If you would like to join the “Landels All School” circle, where we share information regarding upcoming events, news and PTA meetings, you can use code 44WXUW. You may join both circles if you wish.

Going forward we plan to invite our incoming Bubb families to all Landels events. Our next event is our Holiday Movie Night on Friday, December 21 in the Landels MUR (details to come).  We hope to plan some Bubb specific socials in the new year and continue to welcome new families to Landels.

Landels PTA is in the process of electing our nominating Committee for the next school year.  Bubb parents are encouraged to be part of our committee.  If you are interested in participating on the nominating committee, or have any further questions, please contact Claire Blake, PTA President president@landelspta.org

We look forward to our new united community.

Thank You Landels!

Landels families, thank you so much for your enthusiastic contributions to the Family Giving Tree! We dropped off over 80 gifts and filled two full containers--please see our contributions in the attached image.

We also received several donations for our own community. In the spirit of giving, we've decided to leave the giving tree in the office with tags for Landels families in need. Please bring your kind donations of Safeway and Target gift cards to the office before December 21st and we will make sure they help a family have a better holiday season.

 Thank you!

Let’s Talk … Boundaries

"Let's Talk" is a video series that addresses topics that our school community members have questions about and that are important to them. Look for a new video approximately monthly, and
let us know what you think.

The third topic is boundaries. What changes will be made for the 2019-20 school year and who will be affected.

Click here to view the video.

To check how boundary changes may affect you, please click here to view your child’s school of residence.

Open Enrollment is from January 7-February 3 online. You can register your child or confirm your child’s enrollment for the 2019-20 school year when online registration opens on January 7 here:

When students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically.  Your child is less likely to succeed if he or she is chronically absent. Children chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade. By 6th grade, chronic absence is a proven early warning sign for students at risk for dropping out of school.  For more information, click here.
