Principal’s Message from Heidi Galassi

School Site Council Meeting 12/3/18

We met as a school site council team this past Monday, December 3rd, and reviewed our five goals in the school site plan:

  1. Academic achievement - Math
  2. Academic achievement - ELA
  3. Achievement gap
  4. Human capital
  5. Inclusive and supportive culture

We agreed as a team council to focus on our math academic achievement goal first.  We brainstormed and came up with some ideas, such as, hosting an evening math night at Landels, to reach our goal of increasing our academic achievement in math.

Our next meeting will be held on Monday, January 14th, at 5:30 p.m. to further problem solve as a team on how to address increasing our overall academic achievement in math.  Please join us and bring your great ideas!

Recognition Assemblies for 2018-19

Here at Landels, we believe every child has a strength that they bring to our Landels community.  We will be conducting three separate recognition assemblies at Landels for this school year.  Each assembly recognizes one-third of our student population for their specific unique strength.  Therefore, one assembly per trimester will be held.  Each student will be presented with a Recognition ROAR certificate with a sentence or two written by his or her teacher regarding the specific unique strength your child brings to strengthen our Landels community!  We will be in touch when your child is being recognized.

Other important dates...

The next principal’s coffee will be next week Thursday, December 13th, at 8:30 a.m.  Don’t forget to bring your technology choice (iPad, chromebook, etc.) from home so we can show you how to access school programs at home.

If you have not yet set up your parent portal, you should have received another email last week informing you to do so.  If you received this email, please call or visit the office and we can assist you.

Holiday Fair, December 7th, Friday… See you there!

New visitor/volunteer sign-in system

After the Thanksgiving Break, we'll be rolling out new electronic visitor/volunteer sign-in systems at our schools. The new system will increase security by alerting staff to any potential concerns, as well as improve the accuracy and efficiency of the sign-in process. Instead of signing in on the book on the counter, you will be able to show your ID at the kiosk and have a visitor badge printed for you. There will be an extra step the first time you sign in yourself or your child (ex. after a doctor’s appointment) because the system will require a form of ID, such as a driver’s license; however, it will remember your information for the next time you sign in. Thank you for your patience as we learn to use the new system that will upgrade security at our schools.

If your student is interested in a class, please have him/her sign up in the office.  If you would like to add the class to your calendar, please scan the 2-D bar (QR) code on the sign-up sheet after your student has signed up.
