Principal’s Message from Heidi Galassi 

Hello Landels Families! 

Welcome back from a well-deserved break!  We are well on our way into trimester 2 and we have been analyzing all data from trimester 1 to better give students what they need.  We are beginning small group extended learning after school with some students.  You will be contacted via parent permission slip for an invite to this program.  We are also implementing literature circles for a more in-depth discussion regarding language arts concepts. 

The second iReady diagnostic will be completed by November 30th.  Please contact your child’s teacher for growth results and a discussion on how best to help your child at home. 

Our next ELAC meeting will be this week Thursday, November 29th, at 8:30 a.m.  Please join us in an conversation on how to best support your child at home with homework and extra support with school work. 

You should have received an email from us regarding your Parent Portal account.  Please set up your parent portal account by this Friday, November 30th.  It will be necessary for registration and the Intent to Return survey that will be sent out at the beginning of 2019.  If you have questions regarding this, please contact our office. 

Volunteers Needed 

Landels Library Volunteer Helpers Needed....week of December 10-14, 2018. Your help is greatly appreciated for the upcoming move into the new library space. Job: ELPAC Testers 

Job Description: MVWSD is looking for qualified individuals interested in administering the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California Test (ELPAC) to the District’s K-8 English language learners. All examiners will be certified by successfully completing the district-sponsored screening and training. $21 an hour. Must be fluent English speaker. Please email if you are interested. 


New visitor/volunteer sign-in system

After the Thanksgiving Break, we'll be rolling out new electronic visitor/volunteer sign-in systems at our schools. The new system will increase security by alerting staff to any potential concerns, as well as improve the accuracy and efficiency of the sign-in process. Instead of signing in on the book on the counter, you will be able to show your ID at the kiosk and have a visitor badge printed for you. There will be an extra step the first time you sign in yourself or your child (ex. after a doctor’s appointment) because the system will require a form of ID, such as a driver’s license; however, it will remember your information for the next time you sign in. Thank you for your patience as we learn to use the new system that will upgrade security at our schools.


If your student is interested in a class, please have him/her sign up in the office.  If you would like to add the class to your calendar, please scan the 2-D bar (QR) code on the sign-up sheet after your student has signed up.

PTA Meeting Tonight:

Please join us at our PTA meeting tonight, Wednesday, November 28, 6:00pm in the Teachers Lounge (enter through the office). We have FREE childcare with dinner kindly provided through the YMCA. Drop your children off at the on-site YMCA (found opposite rooms 1 & 2) between 6:00pm-6:10pm. The meeting starts at 6:15 pm. You can sign up for childcare at the YMCA or through this sign up link

We alternate between morning and evening meetings to allow more people to attend depending on their schedule. 

Parents Night Out Friday!

As part of the Walkathon & Silent Auction fundraiser, the on-site YMCA is hosting a Parents Night Out! Drop your children off at the YMCA where they will have fun with their friends, eat dinner and play games. Go enjoy a date night, have a night out with friends, or start your holiday shopping! Sign up sheet is available at the YMC or email, spaces are limited!

Parents night Friday, November 30 from 6:00pm - 10:00pm.

$40 per child cash or make checks payable to Landels PTA.

You can also pay online at scroll down to "Silent Auction" and select the $40 1x Silent Auction Party Ticket $40 once per child. Please also email the names of your children to if you chose to pay online.

The YMCA will accept all toilet trained children aged 2 years, 9 months and up. 

Books Inc. Shopping Night!

Thursday, December 6 is Books Inc Shopping Night. Come join us for a great night of Holiday Shopping, we will have some treats to share! Books Inc. have great gifts for everyone, from books (obviously), crafts, accessories, teacher gifts (hint hint), and more.  It’s a wonderful place to shop while raising money for our school at the same time! Books Inc. generously give 20% for all purchases made during the event.

 Holiday Faire:

The Landels Holiday Faire will be held on FridayDecember 7 from 3:15pm- 6:30pm  in the MUR after school. This annual event will open with musical performances by our own Landels choir as well as performances by Crittenden, Graham and the MVHS Madrigals choirs. There will be treats, games, shopping and plenty of holiday cheer! Come hungry, we will have a great food truck so you can grab dinner before you head home!

The Family Giving Tree

"To fulfill the exact holiday gift wish of a child, adult or senior in need may not seem like much, but for someone who may not otherwise receive a gift, it’s everything. That single, specially chosen gift lets them know that someone in the community is thinking of them."  

We are proud to sponsor another year of Family Giving Tree at Landels.  Choose a tag and bring the requested item to the office, unwrapped and with the tag, no later than Friday, December 7th. The tags are located outside of Principal Galassi's office.

Apply for preschool now!
The award-winning MVWSD Preschool Program is currently accepting applications for both free, state preschool and fee-based spaces for the 2019-20 school year.  The enrollment process will begin February 2019.  We will be offering part-day and full-day classes to children who will be at least 2 years and 9 months old by September 1, 2019 until they are age eligible for kindergarten.  Fee-based and full-day spaces will fill fast, so apply now! An information night for students new to the District to explain the registration process, is on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m. (Spanish) and 7 p.m. (English) at Castro Elementary School, 500 Toft St. 

Kindergarten information nights for individual schools are at 6 p.m. on Dec. 4 for all elementary schools.

STEMtastic online discussion is open

STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is important for our students. The Mountain View Whisman School District is exploring what STEM opportunities the District can provide to students so that they feel prepared for high school, college and beyond. 

We are exploring this topic through this open-ended, online exchange of ideas. Please check your email for the link at which you can share your input on what are the most important considerations we should keep in mind as we plan for future science, technology, engineering and math curriculum in MVWSD. Middle school students and staff members will be participating in their own version of this online discussion.
